Selling Organs

I do not think an individual should have the right to sell his or her organs.  I do not think people should be able to sell their organs because it is hard enough these days to receive organs in the first place.  This is because they are in such high demand.  If people start putting price tags on organs, it could possibly bump the people from the top of the list who are in the most need of the organ, but can't possibly afford it.  Receiving any medical treatment is costly enough and it will give the less fortunate no chance of receiving an organ for a transplant.  

After reading the article by Martin Wilkinson made me think more about the selling of organs.  His opinions do seem to go back and forth in the article, but most strongly believes that people should be able to sell their own organs because they should have the choice.  I agree that people should be able to choose, but only to a certain extent.  I think that if people are allowed to be able to sell their organs, then it will get out of hand.  Wilkinson states, “But the answer is to regulate the market, not to drive it underground.”  Driving it underground is exactly what will end up happening in this situation.  Crime will begin to occur more frequently to sell the organs and get paid off the organs they get in the black market. 

A person should be willing to donate their organs and want to help out someone in need, not because they want to get paid.  It could be possible that more people would donate their organs because they will get paid off of them.  This will help make the gap of need less, but it is still not right for people to sell them.  The people of the most need should be the ones who receive the organs first.  Not the people who can pay more for them.
